Chapter 1: Syllabus for Chemistry
A special orientation chapter for JEE Main 2027 Chemistry. Chapter 2: Some Basic Concepts in Chemistry
The first topic chapter of JEE Main 2027 Chemistry (Physical Chemistry) and a foundational Physical-Chemistry unit (typically 4-5% of the paper). It covers the mole concept, laws of chemical combination, stoichiometry, empirical and molecular formulae, and concentration terms.
Chapter 3: Atomic Structure
A Physical Chemistry unit for JEE Main 2027 (typically 3-5% of the paper). It covers the nature of electromagnetic radiation and the photoelectric effect, the Bohr model of the hydrogen atom and its spectra, the dual nature of matter (de Broglie) and the Heisenberg uncertainty principle, the quantum-mechanical model with quantum numbers and orbital shapes, and the rules governing electronic configuration (Aufbau, Pauli, Hund).
Chapter 4: Chemical Bonding and Molecular Structure
An Inorganic Chemistry unit for JEE Main 2027 (typically 3-4% of the paper) and a foundation for all of chemistry. It covers the Kossel-Lewis approach, ionic and covalent bonds, VSEPR theory and molecular geometry, valence bond theory and hybridisation, molecular orbital theory for homonuclear diatomics, and hydrogen bonding.
Chapter 5: Chemical Thermodynamics
A high-weight Physical Chemistry unit for JEE Main 2027 (typically 6-7% of the paper). It covers the first law (internal energy, work, heat, enthalpy, heat capacity, Hess's law and enthalpies of reaction) and the second law (entropy, Gibbs energy and the spontaneity criterion).
Chapter 6: Solutions
A high-weight Physical Chemistry unit for JEE Main 2027 (typically 5-6% of the paper). It covers the methods of expressing concentration, Raoult's law, ideal and non-ideal solutions, the colligative properties (relative lowering of vapour pressure, elevation of boiling point, depression of freezing point, osmotic pressure), the van't Hoff factor and abnormal molar mass
Chapter 7: Equilibrium
A high-weight Physical Chemistry unit for JEE Main 2027 (typically 5-6% of the paper). It covers physical and chemical equilibria, the law of mass action (, ), Le Chatelier's principle and ionic equilibrium — acids and bases, Ostwald's dilution law, pH, buffers, the common-ion effect, salt hydrolysis and solubility product.
Chapter 8: Redox Reactions and Electrochemistry
A high-weight Physical Chemistry unit for JEE Main 2027 (typically 5-6% of the paper). It covers oxidation numbers and the balancing of redox reactions, electrolytic and metallic conduction, molar conductivity and Kohlrausch's law, electrochemical cells, EMF and standard electrode potential, the Nernst equation and its link to Gibbs energy, batteries and fuel cells, and Faraday's laws of electrolysis.
Chapter 9: Chemical Kinetics
A Physical Chemistry unit for JEE Main 2027 (typically 4-6% of the paper). It covers the rate of reaction, order and molecularity, rate laws and rate constants, integrated rate equations for zero- and first-order reactions, half-life, the Arrhenius equation and activation energy, and the elementary ideas of collision theory.
Chapter 10: Classification of Elements and Periodicity in Properties
An Inorganic Chemistry unit for JEE Main 2027 (typically 4-5% of the paper). It covers the modern periodic law and the present form of the periodic table, the s-, p-, d- and f-block classification, and the periodic trends in atomic and ionic radii, ionisation enthalpy, electron gain enthalpy, electronegativity and valency.
Chapter 11: p-Block Elements
An Inorganic Chemistry unit for JEE Main 2027 (typically 3-5% of the paper). It covers groups 13 to 18 — electronic configuration and the general trends in physical and chemical properties down each group, the anomalous behaviour of the first element, the inert pair effect, and the more important compounds (hydrides, oxides, oxyacids, halogens and noble-gas compounds).
Chapter 12: d- and f-Block Elements
An Inorganic Chemistry unit for JEE Main 2027 (typically 4-6% of the paper). It covers the transition (d-block) elements — general trends, variable oxidation states, colour, magnetic and catalytic behaviour, interstitial compounds and alloys, and the preparation and properties of KMnO4 and K2Cr2O7 — and the inner-transition (f-block) elements — lanthanoids (electronic configuration, oxidation states, lanthanoid contraction) and actinoids.
Chapter 13: Co-ordination Compounds
A high-weight Inorganic Chemistry unit for JEE Main 2027 (typically 8-9% of the paper, one of the most weighted units). It covers Werner's theory, IUPAC nomenclature, isomerism, valence bond theory and crystal field theory, magnetic behaviour and applications.
Chapter 14: Purification and Characterisation of Organic Compounds
An Organic Chemistry unit for JEE Main 2027 (typically 1-2% of the paper). It covers the purification of organic compounds (crystallisation, sublimation, distillation, differential extraction and chromatography), qualitative analysis (detection of nitrogen, sulphur and halogens), and quantitative analysis (estimation of carbon, hydrogen, nitrogen, halogens, sulphur and phosphorus) leading to empirical and molecular formula determination.
Chapter 15: Some Basic Principles of Organic Chemistry
A high-weight Organic Chemistry unit for JEE Main 2027 (typically 8-9% of the paper) and the foundation of all organic reasoning. It covers tetravalency and hybridisation, IUPAC nomenclature, isomerism, electronic displacement effects (inductive, resonance, hyperconjugation, electromeric), reaction intermediates and the types of organic reactions.
Chapter 16: Hydrocarbons
An Organic Chemistry unit for JEE Main 2027 (typically 3-5% of the paper). It covers alkanes (conformations, preparation, halogenation), alkenes and alkynes (preparation, addition reactions, Markovnikov's rule and the peroxide effect), and aromatic hydrocarbons (benzene, aromaticity, electrophilic substitution and the directive influence of substituents).
Chapter 17: Organic Compounds Containing Halogens
An Organic Chemistry unit for JEE Main 2027 (typically 4-5% of the paper). It covers haloalkanes and haloarenes — nomenclature, the nature of the C-X bond, preparation, physical and chemical properties, the SN1 and SN2 substitution mechanisms, and the uses and environmental effects of chloroform, DDT and freons.
Chapter 18: Organic Compounds Containing Oxygen
The highest-weight Organic Chemistry unit for JEE Main 2027 (typically 9-11% of the paper). It covers alcohols, phenols and ethers, and aldehydes, ketones and carboxylic acids — their preparation, physical and chemical properties, named reactions and characteristic tests.
Chapter 19: Organic Compounds Containing Nitrogen
An Organic Chemistry unit for JEE Main 2027 (typically 3-5% of the paper). It covers amines — classification, structure, basic character, preparation and reactions — and diazonium salts — preparation and their central importance in synthetic organic chemistry (Sandmeyer, coupling and related reactions).
Chapter 20: Biomolecules
An Organic Chemistry unit for JEE Main 2027 (typically 4-5% of the paper). It covers carbohydrates (classification, mono/di/polysaccharides, reducing sugars, glucose structure and reactions), proteins (amino acids, the peptide bond, structure levels and enzymes), vitamins (classification and deficiency diseases) and nucleic acids (DNA and RNA, nucleotides and base pairing).
Chapter 21: Principles Related to Practical Chemistry
The Section-B (practical) unit of the JEE Main 2027 syllabus (typically 2-3% of the paper). It covers the detection of extra elements and functional groups, qualitative salt analysis (cations and anions), titrimetric (acid-base and redox) analysis, and the preparation of simple inorganic and organic compounds.
