Leo Tolstoy's satirical story, adapted from Guy de Maupassant, about the tiny kingdom of Monaco. A murderer is sentenced to death, but the Prince finds execution, imprisonment and even a guard too expensive, and finally pays the criminal a pension to go away. The story mocks a justice system ruled by money.
