Class 12 · Biology · Chapter 3
Reproductive Health
Reproductive Health is the shortest chapter of the Class 12 Biology unit, but a high-yield one: typically 2-4 NEET questions every year and a guaranteed CBSE 5-mark essay on either contraceptives or ART. The chapter sits on five sub-topics — the WHO definition of reproductive health and India's RCH programme, the population explosion and the full menu of contraceptive methods (natural, barrier, IUDs, oral, injectables/implants, emergency, surgical), Medical Termination of Pregnancy (MTP) and the legal 12+24-week window, Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs) including AIDS, and Infertility plus the assisted reproductive technologies (IVF, ZIFT, IUT, GIFT, ICSI, AI, IUI, the 'test-tube baby' programme). By the end, you should be able to compare contraceptive methods on mechanism + side-effects, recall the MTP Act, name STIs as curable vs incurable, and trace each ART acronym to its exact step in the fertilisation pipeline.
