Structural Organisation in Animals is a comparison-heavy chapter. Most errors come from mixing up a site, structure, function, route or count, so learn each fact as a complete relationship rather than as an isolated keyword.
Animal tissues
- Epithelial tissue: simple versus compound organisation; squamous, cuboidal, columnar, ciliated and glandular forms; their locations and functions; basement membrane; and tight, adhering and gap junctions.
- Connective tissue: cells, fibres and matrix; loose, dense regular, dense irregular and specialised types; tendon versus ligament; cartilage, bone and blood; and the distinction between blood cells and platelet fragments.
- Muscular tissue: skeletal, smooth and cardiac muscle compared by fibre shape, striations, nuclei, branching, control and intercalated discs.
- Neural tissue: neurons as excitable signalling cells and neuroglia as supporting and protective cells.
Frog morphology and internal systems
Fix the external adaptations and sexual dimorphism first, then learn the major anatomical routes: the alimentary canal and digestive secretions; cutaneous, buccopharyngeal and pulmonary respiration; the three-chambered heart and the hepatic and renal portal systems; brain regions and ten pairs of cranial nerves; and the separate male and female reproductive pathways to the cloaca.
[NEET Important] Qualifiers such as simple, compound, voluntary, involuntary, nucleated, paired, separate and common often decide the answer. Test every qualifier before accepting a statement.
Exam Approach
- Identify the domain first. Decide whether the stem concerns a tissue, a frog organ system, a route or a numerical count before reading the options.
- Evaluate statements independently. In a multi-statement item, mark each line true or false from NCERT before looking for the matching combination. Pay special attention to words such as all, only, always and never.
- Build matches before reading the codes. Pair every tissue, structure or organ with its correct site and function, then choose the option that reproduces the full set.
- Sketch routes with arrows. Short chains prevent reversals in digestive, respiratory, circulatory and reproductive pathways.
- Separate similar-looking facts. Cardiac muscle is striated but involuntary; tendons and ligaments are both dense regular connective tissue but connect different structures; a frog's sinus venosus and conus arteriosus lie on opposite sides of blood flow.
- Review the smallest failed fact. After checking an explanation, record whether the error was a site, structure, function, route or count, and revise that exact link instead of memorising an option letter.
