Build the chapter as one connected sequence: respiratory organs, the human air passage, mechanics of breathing, respiratory volumes and capacities, diffusion of gases, transport by blood, regulation of respiration and respiratory disorders. The most useful NCERT anchors are the exact volume ranges and capacity formulae; the partial-pressure table for atmosphere, alveoli, deoxygenated blood, oxygenated blood and tissues; the three layers of the diffusion membrane; and the contrasting conditions for gas loading and unloading.
Keep the transport figures attached to the correct gas. RBCs carry about 97% of O2 and plasma carries about 3% in dissolved form. For CO2, about 70% travels as bicarbonate, 20-25% as carbamino-haemoglobin and about 7% dissolved in plasma. At the alveoli, high pO2, low pCO2, lesser H+ concentration and lower temperature favour oxyhaemoglobin formation; tissue conditions are the reverse and favour oxygen release.
Regulation is another compact scoring area: the medullary respiratory rhythm centre establishes the rhythm, the pontine pneumotaxic centre can shorten inspiration, and the chemosensitive area plus receptors associated with the aortic arch and carotid artery respond mainly to CO2 and H+. For disorders, connect asthma with inflamed bronchi and bronchioles, emphysema with damaged alveolar walls and reduced respiratory surface, and prolonged industrial dust exposure with inflammation and fibrosis.

- In a volume question, write the capacity identity before inserting any values; use only the volumes present in that identity.
- In a site-based question, compare pO2 and pCO2 first, then check H+ concentration and temperature.
- In match and statement questions, judge every pairing independently before looking at the combined options.
- Watch negative stems such as not a function and absolute words such as only or all.
- Use elimination from exact NCERT contrasts: conducting versus exchange part, inspiration versus expiration, alveoli versus tissues, and asthma versus emphysema.
