The Hazards of Mining

Rat-hole mining: In parts of the north-east, minerals are owned by individuals or communities. In Meghalaya, coal is mined at Jowai and Cherrapunji through long, narrow tunnels called 'rat-hole' mining — a hazardous practice that the National Green Tribunal has declared illegal.
