A mineral is a naturally occurring homogeneous substance found in ores. Minerals occur in veins and lodes (copper, zinc), beds (coal), as residual deposits (bauxite), in placer deposits (gold), and in ocean waters (common salt).

Classification and Major Minerals

  • Conventional energy: firewood, dung cake, coal, petroleum, natural gas, electricity (hydel + thermal).
  • Coal: most abundant; types = peat, lignite, bituminous, anthracite. Gondwana (Damodar valley) · Tertiary (NE states).
