Class 10 (English Medium) · Geography · Chapter 1
Resources and Development
This chapter introduces the concept of resources — anything in our environment that can be used to satisfy human needs — and how they are classified on the basis of origin, exhaustibility, ownership, and status of development. It explains the development and sustainable use of resources, the Rio Earth Summit and Agenda 21, and why resource planning and conservation are essential in a diverse country like India. The chapter then turns to land as a resource: land-use categories, India's land-use pattern, land degradation and its remedies, the major soil types of India, and the causes of soil erosion together with soil conservation methods. It is a foundational and highly scoring chapter of the Class 10 Geography (Contemporary India II) Board syllabus.
