The human excretory system is like a high-tech water treatment plant. It has four main parts:

  • Position: They are located against the back wall of your abdomen (Dorsal inner wall).
  • Exact Levels: They sit between the Last Thoracic (T12) and Third Lumbar (L3) vertebrae.
  • Size: Length: 10-12 cm, Width: 5-7 cm, Thickness: 2-3 cm.
  • Appearance: Reddish-brown and bean-shaped.

Internal Structure

If you slice a kidney open, you see distinct zones:

  1. Hilum: The "doorway" notch on the inner side. This is where the Ureter, Blood vessels, and Nerves enter/exit.
